Everyone has heard of iTunes as the legal place to get your music, but there is also Napster. No not it’s not illegal, after 2 years of development they got napster running legally and it is much better than iTunes, costwise.
Well let’s start with the pricing of Napster; well most track cost 99p and albums as much as £9.99. But if you have an mp3 player (not ipod) for £15 monthly you can download any amount of tracks to your mp3 player or £10 to be able to just download how much you want and run it directly on your pc.
I have the £10 subscription because I am mostly on my pc and at home, and I am very very happy of what I get in return of my £10. I get high speed download of the track and also a lot of choice in tracks. I can get music from 60 years ago and get new bands who no one have heard of. Like for example I heard of the “kooks” 2-3 months before their tracks hits the store in the uk.
Napster also offer new tracks and albums every tuesday and when i say new i mean new as they usually release albums that comes out that week itself.
The download and availability of tracks is very good. In the uk I get 2mb of stream bandwidth and I usually download a track around 20-30 seconds and at an average speed of 180kpbs+ .
I usually get bored of tracks after a few weeks and want more and with napster I find new tracks and good compiled playlist of my choice. They also have a feature that even compiles new music tracks into a playlist based on the tracks I have in my library. Most of the time the tracks are good but there are days where it doesn’t even get any good ones.
Regarding limitation of drm, Napster allows you to use the tracks on 3 pcs, which is more than enough for me.
