Optimising post content on invision power board for search engine description.
As a strong believer that meta description doesn’t really help your ranking on popular search engines, I recently got whipped really hard by not having meta description. This is really not making any of my post on my demo board for minerva seo appear content relevant, thus forcing me to add them, which I am not going to.
I am not going to because I know what google and other search engines are looking for, and that is the paragraph tag, yes that right, the <p> tags. So what I did is add this simple p tag in the post content to tell the search engines that it is the content of the page.
This simple implementation will now tell search engines that now that those data in the tables are the content of that page and they should be getting the information out of them. This not only saves me time but also server resource. As search engines are doing a fine job extracting content out of your site, rather than I code a long piece of code to just tell meta search engines what content is on the page.
You noticed that I gave meta search engine emphasis as these are the only search engines that do read the meta description as google, et al are not meta search engines and they really hate to be dictated what is on the page.
How I optimised the page content on IPB
First access your admincp > Looks & feel > %your skin% > edit template html > topic view > renderRow
Now find:
{$post['post']}
Add before:
<p style=”background:none; border:none; margin:inherit;padding:inherit;”>
Find:
<!–IBF.ATTACHMENT_{$post['pid']}–>
Add after:
</p>
And save the template bit
