First impression of IPB 3.0.0

I’ve had a first look at the new IPB 3.0.0 from Invision Power. I must say the new software is robust and powerful. The installation was very long, approximately around 4min. That was done locally on my machine therefore very fast, but if that was installed on a server it might take some time. (BTW i have an intel Quad Core running at 2.6ghz, so it should be running fast :) )

I really like that IPB now includes hooks, it should now allow developers to deploy their mods much faster. But I could see this harming the software after a while. Too much hooks can and will affect the stability, security and the speed of the board. That doesn’t mean its bad, we just have to use it in moderation.

I have been able to figure out how it work so far. When the source code is available I will be able to understand it and be able to post a guide on my blog on how to create and use the hook system.

For the moment I am going to start writing a skinning guide for IPB 3.x.x and I will post it as soon as I can.

A detailed review will be posted soon.
